About The Dewey Kennedy…

1926-1996

The Dewey Kennedy Scholarship Fund was started in 1996 in memory of Dewey Kennedy who probably loved the dance, junior shaggers, and the camaraderie as much as anybody around. Although the idea and the original funding for the scholarship were started by CSA dancers as a way to honor and remember Dewey, the means to fund the scholarship each year since comes from various groups, individual contributions, and fundraisers.

The scholarship fund is now a part of the Hall of Fame Foundation and recipients are chosen by foundation directors Norfleet Jones, Al Cain, Ron Whisenant, and Jason Cagle.

Applications are due at the first of the year and the scholarship winner is announced at the Keeper of the Dance weekend in February in North Myrtle Beach.

All Donations to the scholarship fund should be made to the Hall of Fame Foundation and specified FOR the Dewey Kennedy Scholarship Fund.
